GGU Scholars Award Propels Student to Transform His Future

Two years ago, union carpenter William Gonzalez was standing on a ladder in the freezing cold in New York when he received the call from GGU with good news about a GGU Scholars Award. William enrolled in the BA Business Administration program with an estimated graduation date of Spring ‘24.

It’s been decades since I’ve been in school,” reflected William. “If it weren’t for my professors and the writing tutors, I would be lost.”

Initially, William struggled with the writing demands in his classes. But with the help of the writing tutors through the English Department and supportive professors, his grades improved and he began to earn A’s on writing assignments.

“The professors are very supportive, and the class material has changed my life in terms of what I’m learning about working in a business, having an HR department, communication skills, and writing skills.”

The flexibility of asynchronous online courses have also made a huge difference in William’s success. He’s able to access course materials after work hours, gaining the foundation he needs to understand the business world, make decisions, and collaborate across teams.

“I’m able to learn effectively because I have the books, reading assignments, the lectures, everything put together professionally so I can understand what I’m reading,” he commented. “When I reach out to professors they respond immediately. I see students in classes and we connect through discussion posts.”

With his GGU degree, William will be able to get a job in fields including banking, accounting, and any type of business that requires knowledge of the supply chain.

“The scholarship I received has already changed my life for the better,” said William. “Without this scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to afford this degree program, as I’m still paying for my associate’s degree from years ago. My GGU education is giving me respect and opportunity for years to come. This bachelor’s degree is transforming my future.”
